Now leading Delivery Operations and acting as Head of Americas Delivery for Tieto Tech Consulting, Petr’s path offers valuable insights for both seasoned professionals and aspiring tech talent.
The making of a global tech leader
With a PhD in acoustics and signal processing and over two decades of experience in global technology companies, Petr’s journey began in hardware design and evolved into building and leading large-scale engineering teams across industries—from aerospace and healthcare to telecom and automation. “What always fascinated me,” he says, “is the opportunity to work with people, build teams, and open doors for others.”
He joined Tieto in 2022, not actively seeking a new role but drawn in by the company’s values and culture. What started as a leadership role in software and cloud engineering soon expanded. Today, he oversees cross-continental teams from Central Europe to the Americas, building delivery capabilities and cultivating diverse talent in countries like Argentina, Paraguay, the US, and Brazil. “The diversity we have—both culturally and technically—is a real strength,” he reflects. “It fuels innovation and gives us an edge.”
For Petr, career growth isn’t about climbing the ladder—it’s about creating environments where others can thrive. “For me it is not about chasing titles. I like creating opportunities —for people, for the business, for innovation,” he explains. This mindset is evident in his enthusiasm for mentoring, working with universities, and driving initiatives that connect young talent to real-world projects. His passion for learning and development keeps him closely connected to both people and technology: “Technologies change, industries evolve. Staying close to customers and technical experts helps me stay relevant.”
One of his most meaningful projects? A nurse call system used in hospitals across Europe. “Knowing that something your team built helps save lives—that’s deeply fulfilling.” Whether it’s healthcare systems, 5G networks, or emerging opportunities in Latin America, Petr stays energized by the tangible impact of technology—and the collaborative spirit behind it.
Life beyond leadership: balance and inspiration
Despite managing global teams and navigating two time zones, he remains grounded by his personal passions. A father of two young boys, Petr finds balance in running (in every country he visits), roasting coffee, brewing beer, photography, and even watchmaking. “There’s no thick border between work and personal life for me—it’s a blend. But at Tieto, I can manage my time and priorities. That flexibility makes a huge difference.”
His advice for those entering or advancing in the tech world? Be curious, stay open, and embrace challenges. “The world is changing fast—geopolitically, technologically. That brings uncertainty, but also opportunity. The key is to keep learning and lean into diversity. That’s where innovation thrives.”
