Hanna Lesiów-Morawska: How Cross-Industry Experience Fuels Tech Leadership

Hanna Lesiów-Morawska’s professional journey is a compelling example of how curiosity, adaptability, and the courage to leave one’s comfort zone can lead to unexpected and rewarding career paths. From her early days in logistics to her current leadership role in the tech industry, she has embraced change and diversity at every step. In this article, she shares insights from her career, thoughts on gender balance in technology, and valuable advice for anyone—especially women—considering a move into the tech world.

Cross-industry experience and leadership growth

With a Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Wroclaw, Hanna built her career across diverse sectors, including—logistics, banking, automotive, and tender management. A consistent theme throughout has been leadership, customer collaboration, and cross-border process transitions. Working in international environments, which bring together different perspectives, has helped shape her professional and personal outlook.

Currently working as Director of Industry Segment Poland at Tietoevry Create, she oversees a newly formed department working across Central Europe. Her primary focus is on building integrated teams, aligning expertise with cost-effective solutions, and she sees great value in working with experienced colleagues who share a proactive mindset. Though her current role is relatively new, her priority is to establish a strong foundation.

Lessons learned and the importance of perspective

Hanna’s journey highlights the power of steady progress: tackling challenges by breaking them into smaller tasks and solving them step by step. She also emphasizes the value of openness—especially listening to colleagues to broaden one’s view.

When asked about being in the minority as a woman in tech, she explains that gender was never her focus when choosing roles. Instead, company values and the substance of the job guided her decisions. She also notes the imbalance in how such questions are asked—suggesting it would be equally relevant to ask men working in female-dominated fields.

Gender balance and building on strengths

To improve gender diversity in the technology sector, Hanna advocates focusing on strengths, asserting that trying to “fix” weaknesses only leads to mediocrity. She believes instead that building on strong points allows individuals to achieve their full potential. Considering that the tech industry requires a wide mix of competencies— including technical knowledge, communication skills, domain expertise, and leadership abilities—there is ample opportunity for many types of talent.

Hanna’s advice to women is simple: apply. Even if you meet only 70% of the listed requirements, go for it. Too often, talented women hold back because they focus on what they lack instead of what they bring.
